URUGUAY - Heading along the coast

Good times and warm weather

We left Buenos Aires on the Buquebus (sounds like Boogie-Bus said in a Northern English accent) and arrived in Colonia del Sacramento which is a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s a small town on the coast with old Spanish buildings and cobbled streets.

We then moved on to the capital, Montevideo and headed straight for the weekend "craft" fair. I had great expectations of interesting trinkets and delicate jewellery.......how wrong was I.....it turned out to be ex-medical gear, old socks and green peppers (and those were the good stands!). A little disappointed we headed out for dinner. Proving that life on the road is all ups and downs, we ended up in a exceptionally cool restaurant in the old town of Montevideo. Great wine, great food and great music.

After Montevideo we had a couple of days in the beach resort of Punta del Este. This is where the rich Uruguayans and Argentines come to party in world class hotels and restaurants.....as we are backpackers now, we stayed at a hostel on the beach and ate pizza (and sunk quite a few beers) with a few people we met there. We had a great night.......and there was a very little body with a very sore head carrying a very heavy backpack to the bus station the next day.

We were headed back to Argentina.... the land of the red wine and steak.
